WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? 1. If the person who has died left a Will there will be one or more people named in the Will who the deceased named as “Executors.” These are sometimes also referred to as “Personal Representatives.” These are the people who have the task of giving effect to the wishes set out in the Will as well as dealing with the deceased’s paperwork, closing bank accounts, paying household bills, Inheritance Tax etc. The Executors usually need to apply for authority to deal with the deceased’s matters and this is done by obtaining a “Grant of Probate.” There are certain exceptions to this and we can explain the rules and regulations to you. If a Grant of Probate is needed we can apply for the Grant of Probate for you. 2. If the person who has died did not make a Will then an application usually needs to be made for “Letters of Administration.” This is more complicated. Again, we can deal with the process for you, or explain the rules and regulations to you. Click HERE to download our helpful leaflet
